In November 1923 twenty Catholic Families who lived in the Valverde neighborhood formed the Valverde Catholic Church Association. A vacant lot on the corner of West Nevada Place and South Navajo was purchased. Next the Association purchased a church from the Presbyterians. The men built the foundation and moved the church to the lot. This original church seated 35 people. The church was dedicated October 5, 1924 with R.t Rev. Mathew Smith as its temporary pastor. Msgr. Mulroy became the first permanent pastor in 1925. Ground was broken for the school on October 26, 1950 and was dedicated May 12, 1955 by Archbishop Urban J. Vehr.
