The mission of the Peace and Justice ministry of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Community is to promote Gospel values through prayer and action. We commit ourselves to serve God’s people by increasing the community’s awareness of Catholic social justice issues, and by encouraging people to take action for a just and equitable society.
“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” James 1:22
The Seven Key Themes of
Catholic Social Teaching
• Life and Dignity of the Human Person. The
sanctity of the human person is the foundation of a
moral vision for society.
• Call to Family, Community, and
Participation. How we organize in society and in
community directly affects human dignity.
• Rights and Responsibilities. Human dignity
can be protected and a healthy community can be
achieved only if human rights are protected and
responsibilities met.
• Preferential Option for the Poor and
Vulnerable. A basic moral test is how our most
vulnerable members in society are faring.
• The Dignity of Work and the Rights of
Workers. The economy must serve people, not the
other way around.
• Global Solidarity. We are a human family,
whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and
ideological differences.
• Care for God’s Creation. We show our respect
for the Creator by our stewardship of creation.
